Transit Road restaurant renovates for a family friendly feel

According to its Web site, reservations for a weekend dinner at Calvaneso's restaurant on Transit Road are highly recommended.

And with a new family-friendly atmosphere and updated menu, diners can bank on a packed house in the coming months.

"We've made the restaurant a little more casual, with an atmosphere focused on the family," said owner Steven Calvaneso. "It has an old tavern look to it with a contemporary twist."

Calvaneso said the restaurant's face-lift has been an on-going process for the past couple of months, and improvements will continue to be made in the future.

"It's still a work in progress," he said. "We are almost there, but we want everything to be perfect for our customers so it is going to take time."

Some of the newer features of the restaurant include hand carved beef-on-weck sandwiches behind the bar, which boasts a full wine, beer and liquor menu. And the menu is stacked with entrees ranging in price from from $12 to $19.

"Most of our menu choices now consist of items that are priced under $20," Calvaneso said. "We've added more pasta and chicken dishes. We are trying to accommodate all our customer's tastes and make the menu more compatible to the families in the area."

But old favorites can still be found among the restaurant's featured menu items.

"We still have the filets, the salmon with the bur blanc sauce and the calamari," Calvaneso said.

The menu also offers a new children's section for the younger diners.

"The kid's menu has your typical items," Calvaneso said. "There's the grilled cheese, the chicken fingers and so on. The things kids like to eat."

All items are also available for takeout as well.

Calvaneso's is open from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and from 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday. It is located at 5185 Transit Road, a half mile north of Eastern Hills Mall.
