University at Buffalo redshirt freshman Andrew Stella, a Sweet Home High School graduate, placed fifth at the New York State Wrestling Championships.

Anna Rubino, 9, of Williamsville had two first place and a third place finish in the Niagara District (Western and Central New York) Junior Olympic swim meet in Webster, N.Y. on Jan. 15. Rubino swam in the 9-year old girls division for SHAQ Swim Club in Amherst. She was first in the 50 freestyle (30.15) and 50 backstroke (36.23). She was third in the 100 breast (1:38.24).

Sweet Home junior defensive lineman Nick Christman was named to the New York State Class A Second Team.

Sophomore Jessica Ortman won the 800-meters in an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:09.83, seven hundredths of a second off of her own school record for the University at Albany women's track and field team at the Gotham Cup in New York City on Friday, Jan. 12. Ortman, a Williamsville resident and Williamsville South High School graduate, was also a member of the 4x400 relay team which finished third in 3:52.21 and qualified for the ECACs.
