Squirt Wolves tame Rangers

The Squirt Wolves defeated the Rangers, 4-2, on Sunday at the Amherst Pepsi Center.

A strong start by both teams led to the Wolves' first goal. Taylor Malesky scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Max McArthur and Erica Dombrowski. The Rangers didn't take long to tie it up 1-1 with a goal by John Tomczak.

Both teams skated hard and played remarkable defense, ending the first period tied at 1-1.

Both teams came out roaring but the Rangers Tim Fremming quickly attacked and managed to squeeze one past Wolves goalie Connor Juenker, assisted by Mickey Evans, putting the Rangers ahead, 2-1. Their one-goal advantage didn't last long as Anthony Carbone took the puck around the net and scored for the Wolves, assisted by Brett Baker.

Outstanding goaltending by both goalies kept the second period tied at 2-2.

The third period proved to be action packed. The Wolves' Nolan Burch was determined to score past Rangers goalie Michael Battaglia. Burch fired a blistering shot to the net scoring unassisted and making it 3-2.

But Burch wasn't through. Within minutes, he had carried the puck through a tough Rangers defense and scored his second of the game.

The Rangers fought hard for the remainder of the period but was unable to get past the Wolves' defense. Juenker made many more powerful saves for the Wolves.

The Wolves defense of Ryan Burns, Brett Baker, Austin Abbarno, Derek Hafner, and Sam Adams kept the Rangers out of the Wolves zone.

Strong plays were also made by the Wolves' Ron Martin, Zack Serotte, Matt Werwinski, Adam Teach, Max McArthur, and Erica Dombrowski.
