Amherst beats South, Maryvale The Amherst varsity boys swimming team improved its record to 5-4-1 with two decisive wins last week over Williamsville South (118-50) and Maryvale (69-25). All three Tiger relays won against South. They are: 200 medley (Jacob Hofmar-Glennon, Stephen Arlington, Nathan Chau, Marshall Davis), 200 free (Ian Blochwitz, Davis, Harrison Singer, Ryan Menasco) and 400 free relay (Hofmar-Glennon, Singer, Menasco, Paul Timmel). Menasco (50 free, 100 free) and Timmel (200 free, 500 free) were double winners. Hofmar-Glennon took first in the 100 back. Singer (100 free, second; 200 free, three); Davis (200 free, second; 100 back, third), Blochwitz (50 free, second), Ben Swiatek (50 free, third; 100 free, third), Arlington (100 breast, second), Devin Finan (100 breast, third); Chau (100 fly, second); and Allen Dengler (100 fly, third) were other notable Amherst swimmers who performed well. All three Tiger relays also won against Maryvale. They are: 200 medley (Hofmar-Glennon, Menasco, Timmel, Singer), 200 free relay (Blochwitz, Davis, Singer, Menasco) and 400 free relay Timmel, Hofmar Glennon, Davis, Blochwitz). Menasco won the 200 free and 100 breast and Timmel took first in the 200 IM and 100 back. Hofmar-Glennon was first in the 50 free and second in the 500 free. Dengler came in second in the 100 fly and third in the 200 IM. Singer won the 100 free and was second in the 50 free. Blochwitz was second in the 100 free. Finan came in third in the 100 breast. Chau won the 100 fly and was third in the 100 back. Personal best times were also turned in by Ian Johnson, Justin Jenkins and Ryan Rychnowski. Amherst hosts Lackawanna at 5 p.m. Friday at Sweet Home. |
