Buffalo In-Line Hockey Group Buffalo In-line Hockey Group held its championships for its fall 2006 season on Saturday at the EPIC Center. In the junior division, the Blue Flames beat the Black Aces, 5-2. In the major division, the Red Raiders beat Team X, 5-3. The Aces had won the regular season title but the Flames didn't believe the hype. They showed why they were the best team this day. The Flames' Zac Carslyle (Tonawanda) opened the scoring with a first period goal. Carslyle tallied again early in the second only to have the Aces counter with a goal by Nick Antoniadis (Amherst). Crowd favorite PJ Anders (Amherst) scored the game winner at 8:15 of the third period. Carslyle tallied two more and Antoniadis scored once more to bring the final tally to 5-2 for the junior division champs, who were led by rookie coach Bill Spatzer. The entire Flame team consisting of Adam Terragnoli (Amherst), Kevin Krawczyck (Tonawanda), Alex Spatzer (Kenmore), Zac Wieand Mike Wesolowski (Cheektowaga) and netminder Tyler Anderson (Tonawanda) deserved the victory. The tone was set early in the major division game when Pat Smith (Amherst) opened the scoring with a goal in the first minute of play. Taylor Setlock (Tonawanda) tied it at 1-1 and later made it 2-1 but Zac Carslyle tied the game at 2-2. Roy Wasiewicz (Cheektowaga) scored twice to give the Raiders a 4-2 lead. Scott Sciolino (Tonawanda) narrowed the lead to 4-3 but Wasiewicz completed his hat trick to make the final score 5-3. It was the first championship for an outstanding veteran coach, Rich Smith. Smith was supported by Edgar Rosario (Kenmore), Kyle King (Tonawanda), Austin Newman (Tonawanda), Nick Shearer (Kenmore), Tommy Wolfe (Amherst) and goalkeeper Aaron Lambe (Tonawanda). Fall postseason awards David Campuzano won the league's Most Valuable Player award for the major division and Evan Dressel won MVP for the junior division. Both players led their respective leagues in scoring and their teams to regular season championships. Campuzano is a freshman at Grand Island High School and Dressel is a seventh grader at Heim Middle school. This was the seventh season that Campuzano has earned this highest league honor and Evans' first. Junior division First Team All- League players are skaters Dressel, Jim Krolikowski, Greg Newman, Zac Carslyle and goalie Tyler Anderson. The major division selections were skaters Pat Smith, Campuzano, John Lyons and Justin Banaszak. Tryouts Placement (not elimination) tryouts for the winter season will be held on Saturday at the EPIC Center, 2793 Wehrle Dr., Williamsville. Tryouts for players 13 years of age (1993) and younger will begin promptly at 9 a.m. and run until 10:20 a.m. Tryouts for players 14 years of age (1992) and older will follow at 10:30 a.m. and run until noon. All players must register at the admin table before hitting the rink and there is a $5 charge to try out. Standard hockey equipment is required.
