Sweet Home places many at 9-10 championships Sweet Home had many strong finishes at the recent 9-10 indoor track championships. Isaac Hagen placed fifth in the 2-mile and sixth in the mile out of all sophomores. Andrew Rao won the freshman mile in 5:18.2 and placed fourth in the 1000-meters. Sean Sanders leaped to fourth in the high jump. Katie Niblock won the ninth grade 2-mile with a sectional qualifying time of 11:32.3. She also placed second in the mile and fifth in the triple jump. Amanda Wilczek placed third in the pole vault for sophomores. The tenth grade 4x400 relay of Meaghan Milbrand, Kate Goetz, Katie Geib, Colleen Kozlowski placed second. At the Western New York Relays on Jan. 15, the boys distance medley and 4x800 of Ryan Poley, Mike Bakowski, Ryan Hughson, Jacob Hagen placed fifth. Dan Miranda and Matt Cross leaped to sixth in the triple jump relay. Andrew Hopkins and Nick Christman were fourth in the shotput relay. Rebecca White and Megan Niblock finished fourth in the triple jump relay. At a meet on Jan. 21, Jacob Hagen won the 1000 in a personal best of 2:40.3. Poley placed third in the 600 with a personal best 1:31.3. Dan Miranda placed third in the 55 hurdles in 9.46. Ryan Hughson placed sixth in the 600 with a time of 1:33.9. Katie Niblock placed fourth in the 1000 after being tripped and fell with two laps to go in the race with a time of 3:30.3. Megan Niblock was fifth in the mile in 5:39.5. Amherst Central Senior Willie Jones is leading Section VI in the high jump with a school record 6-5. Freshman Brenna Symoniak is leading Section VI in the 3000 (10:51). Junior Dave Szymkowiak broke the school record in the 1000. Freshman winners at the recent 9-10 championship meet include Olivia May (girls triple jump), Joe Colato (300), Symoniak (3000, 1500). Sophomore Elliot Bible won the 300 at the same meet and is closing in on a sectional berth. Other sectional qualifiers include Dave Robinson (triple jump), Arielle Januszkiewicz (1500, 3000) and Celia Alterio (1000). |
