Sen. Rath appointed to Senate leadership position State Senator Mary Lou Rath, R-C-I, Williamsville, has become the first woman to hold the position of deputy majority leader for State/Federal Relations. "I am honored to be named to this leadership position, as I feel it serves a vital role in helping to ensure that state and federal governments work together in order to keep New Yorkers' best interests in mind," Rath said. "One of the first things I will do in this new role is focus on health care. New Yorkers are concerned about having accessible and affordable health care. As we work on solutions, it is imperative the state is in harmony with the federal government, particularly in the area of Medicaid reform. Medicaid reform is linked to right-sizing the health care delivery system. As we realize Medicaid reform savings, the entire health care delivery system will be strengthened." She has been a member of the Senate Health Committee for six years. She also is a member of the Senate Task Force on Medicaid Reform and established the "Fix Medicaid" Coalition in Western New York. In addition to being appointed to the leadership post, Rath has been reappointed as chair of the Senate Committee on Tourism, Recreation and Sports Development. |
