With the space designated, there is still a lot of work to be done before the church at 4110 Bailey Ave., can serve as the Eggertsville Community Center.
Eggertsville Community Organization President Aaron J. Stanley encourages residents of the area to attend a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29 at the Harlem Road Community Center, 4255 Harlem Road, in the conference room in an effort to bring awareness to the need for funding of the community center.
The meeting will outline the fund drive and discuss a wish list for the center.
"Not many people know about it. Once they are aware of it they might be behind it," Stanley said. "With volunteer money to support the center, it will be up and running."
The former Calvary Lutheran Church, owned by the Town of Amherst, is expected to be run by the Boys and Girls Club of Buffalo.
Rashiem O'Connor, area director for the Boys and Girls Club of Buffalo, said although the agreement hasn't been established, he expects the program to be developed eventually.
Stanley hopes residents, as well as the town, will get involved.
"By taking part in organizing this fund drive, I will be helping ECO realize one of its longest standing goals, the opening of a multipurpose community center," he said.
