Crossing a bridge

The Theatre of Youth is presenting "Bridge to Terabithia" from Jan. 19-Feb. 11 at the Allendale Theatre.
Eleven-year-old Jesse changes forever when he befriends the class outsider - who happens to be a girl - in the Theatre of Youth's production of "Bridge to Terabithia," on stage Jan. 19-Feb. 11.

Together, Jesse and his friend's imagination bring to life a magical kingdom hidden deep within a secret forest, where they will rule as King and Queen. While they escape from unkind classmates and difficult families, the understanding they find inspires a true friendship that will last forever. Suddenly, Jesse must use all of his confidence and strength to cope with the loss of the one who inspired him most.

Based on the Newbery Award-winning book by Katherine Paterson, the play by Paterson and Stephanie S. Tolan tenderly captures the humor, warmth and emotional intensity of this masterpiece of children's literature. Inspiring, it gently offers young people important thoughts about life and death.

TOY guest director Eileen Duggan's cast includes Sara H. Churchill, James R. Finan, Faith Sheehan Gallivan, Jack Holahan, Peter Jaskowiak, Amy Jakiel, Chris LaBanca, Mary McMahon, Caroline Parzy, Anne Roaldi and Tanya Shaffer.

Performances are 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19 and Feb. 9; and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, Jan. 20, 21, 27, 28, Feb. 3, 4 and 10 and 11 at the Allendale Theatre, 203 Allen St., Buffalo.
