Subversive 'Foundations'

Subversive Theatre's "Foundations" opens Jan. 25 at the New Phoenix Theatre. Pictured are Willie W. Judson Jr. and Dennis Keefe.
Subversive Theatre Collective is presenting the world premiere of Kurt Schneiderman's "Foundations," Thursday, Jan. 25 through Saturday, Feb. 10 at the New Phoenix Theatre in Buffalo.

"Foundations" is a three-act, 11-character play about one crew of unionized construction workers during one day on the job. When these everyday employees discover the truth about what they are building, work comes to a screeching halt and this disparate group faces the hard realities of racism, corruption, union politicking and self-hatred that have plagued working people down through the ages.

Based on actual events in Buffalo city politics, "Foundations" is written in the gritty blue-collar realism tradition of Eugene O'Neill, Clifford Odets and Arthur Miller.

The cast features Dennis Keefe, Willie W. Judson Jr., Andy Moss, Chris Standart, Keith Elkins, Sandra Gilliam, Lawrence Rowswell, Hasheen DeBerry, Victor Morales, Tom Scahill and Marshall Maxwel l.

"Foundations" is written and directed by Subversive Theatre's founder and Artistic Director Schneiderman, a teacher of playwriting at Canisius College and the Just Buffalo Literary Center.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 95 N. Johnson Park, Buffalo. Admission is $10. For more information, call 408-0499 or visit www.subversivetheatre.org.
