Red Sabres tie Gray, shuts out Rangers In Squirt action this weekend, the Red Sabres and the Gray Sabres skated to a 1-1 tie on Saturday. Defense was the key for both teams as they limited the quality and quantity of good scoring opportunities. The Red Sabres' goal was scored by Adam Tucker as his breakaway shot trickled under the pads and into the net. Noah Basehart got the assist. The Gray Sabres countered in the second when Angelo Derossi punched one into the Red Sabres' goal. Katelyn Koester got the assist. The final period saw only a handful of serious scoring opportunities for either team as their defenses kept things under wraps. Red Sabres 1, Rangers 0 The Red Sabres shut out the Rangers, 1-0, in Amherst Youth Hockey Squirt action last weekend. The Red Sabres won for the first time since their trip to Canada three weeks ago. Rookie right winger Andrew White scored his first Amherst Youth Hockey goal midway into the second period and that was enough to give the Red Sabres the win as the defenses for both sides dominated play. Ranger goalie Jason Raimondi was tough between the pipes all game, but Red Sabres goalie Andrew Welchoff was a little tougher as he earned his first shutout of the season. Red Sabre defensemen Matthew Deeb, Anthony Sarcinelli, Matthew Tripi and Max Tracy kept the Ranger offense off balance all game. Welchoff was mobbed by his teammates as he stopped a breakaway, point-blank shot to preserve the win and the shut out as the final horn sounded. |
