Scinta, White Sabres defeat Rangers, clinch first place Sunday afternoon was a showdown of two unbeaten teams in the Amherst Pee Wee hockey league. The White Sabres and the Rangers met for the second time this season, as their previous match-up ended with a tie. This time it was the Dylan Scinta show as the league's leading scorer netted four goals en route to a 4-3 White Sabres victory. Scinta leads the league with 31 goals and the White Sabres are atop the league with a 7-0-3 record. The Rangers' Tim Balkin got things going with his first of two goals. His quick wrist shot trickled in off the White Sabres' goalie just one minute into the game. Scinta's first goal, unassisted, came close to the end of the first period tying the game at 1-1. Balkin's second goal came 55 seconds into the second period but again Scinta answered to tie it up at 2-2. Defense was the name of the game, as both teams were swarming the nets. The White Sabres' defensive five of Kyle Zurak, Gabe Feuerstein, Brendan Mazurek, Tyler Casselman, and Michael Steinig worked and dug the entire game as the Rangers were on the puck and looking for the win. White Sabres' goalie Sean Martin was excellent in net. Only 54 seconds into the third period, the Rangers' John Ring scored to make it 3-2 Rangers, but one minute later, Scinta answered with his third with the assist going to Tyler Casselman. Angelo Caruso, Nicholas Carrubba, Adam Russell and Max Fenter of the White Sabres were constantly working the puck as the team worked hard to stay unbeaten. Dominic Cinelli, Blake Carson, Dan Demeester and John Moore moved the puck and kept up the shots on goal as Ranger goalie Matt Goss played a fantastic game. At the 4:28 mark, Scinta scored his fourth goal with assists to Zurak and Russell to clinch the victory. The White Sabres will try and keep it going next weekend at the Pepsi Center. |
