Black Sabres beat White, tie Gray

In a match-up of two great Micron teams, the Black Sabres took on the White Sabres on Jan. 31 in a heated contest that highlighted great shooting and outstanding goaltending.

The Black Sabres won 5-3.

The teams came out skating hard while both goalies knocked away any hope of scoring. The White Sabres drew first blood on a beautiful goal by Zack Rehbaum. Jack Smith, with the help of Will Redding, poked through the White Sabre defense to tie it up.

The White Sabres' Ben Seagel answered with a goal of his own that just got under the padding of Derek Andrews. Eric Metz returned the favor with a nice shot from the slot and Jon Kubiak's goal gave the Black Sabres the lead. However, the White Sabres were not done. Rehbaum lit the lamp with his second goal of the game to give the White Sabres new life.

In his first scoring effort of the year, Skyler Derose found himself alone with the puck in front of the White Sabre goalie. On a one on one shootout, Derose slid the puck past the goalie to give the Black Sabres the lead which they would not relinquish.

Andrews shut the door on the White Sabres in goal. Kevin Halpern iced the game with a wrist shot that actually rung the back post, handing the White Sabres its first defeat of the season.
