Boehm earns athlete of the week honors

Sacred Heart Academy graduate and Cheektowaga resident Allison Boehm of the St. John Fisher College women's basketball team was named the College's Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 7. She was also named Empire 8 Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

In a 2-0 week for the Cardinals, the junior captain led the team, averaging 18 points and five assists per game. Boehm also grabbed 18 rebounds in the two-game span. The Cardinals rallied from double-digit, second-half deficits in both games to improve to a 7-3 overall record, while earning their first two victories in their Empire 8 Conference schedule.

In the win over host Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday, Boehm tallied 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the Cardinals' 58-56 win over the host Tigers. Twelve of her 16 points came in the second half, including three three-pointers.

Following the Cardinals' win over RIT, the 5-foot-11 guard/forward led Fisher to a 69-61 win over local rival Nazareth College on Saturday. In the contest, Boehm led the Cardinals with 20 points and 10 rebounds, recording her first double-double of the season.

For the season, Boehm leads the Cardinals with 10.6 points per game, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.9 steals per game. She also leads the team with 16 3-pointers.
