East swimmers set personal times

Williamsville East dropped both of its boys swim meets last week but managed to set many personal best times.

Six Flames set personal best times in a 136-57 home loss last Tuesday to Orchard Park. Another three broke personal best records in a 103-80 road loss on Friday at Clarence.

Versus OP, Joe O'Gorman (diving, 180.85), Matt Geiger (100 butterfly, 55.14) and Kane Hsieh (100 breaststroke, 106.38) all won their events. O'Gorman and Geiger's performances were personal bests. Geiger also broke the East school record in the 100 back with a 54.26.

Arjun Pravin (100 free, 101.66), Jean Coignet (100 free, 102.80) and Rohin Sethi (500 free, 614.84) also swam personal best times.

Against Clarence, East coach Mike Doerfler said the Red Devils' depth was too much to overcome.

"We had several first places but they seemed to finish second, third and fourth in every event," said Doerfler.

East had four double winners. Hsieh hit personal bests in the 200 IM by six seconds (216.85) and the 100 breast (105.00). Geiger won the 100 fly (56.04) and 100 back (54.96). Mike Anderson took first in the 200 free and 500 free (513.48). Neil Batta tied for first in the 50 free (23.77) and won the 100 free in 51.17, which is close to a personal best time, said Doerfler.

Mitchell added a personal best time in the 200 free by three seconds, 202.88.

The Flames' 400 free relay of Thomas Mitchell, Anderson, Batta and Geiger won in 332.02.

East (1-3) swam at Jamestown on Tuesday but results were unavailable before The Bee went to press. East will swim at Williamsville North at 5 p.m. on Friday.
