Ancient Mexico explored in planetarium show The next planetarium show, "Skywatchers of Ancient Mexico" will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12 at Williamsville North High School, 1595 Hopkins Road. This program is designed for mid-elementary pupils through adults, and not recommended for younger children. The show will explore how for 3,000 years, stretching from 1500 B.C. to 1521 A.D., the people of Mexico and Central America built cities, developed hieroglyphic writing, performed sophisticated mathematics using the concept of zero, and made astronomical observations. Monuments carved from stone, a handful of surviving books, and the alignments of buildings are enabling archaeologists and astronomers to shed new light on these people. This evening is also a joint meeting with the Buffalo Astronomical Association. Attendees are welcome to bring telescopes and meet the Buffalo Astronomical Association. For more than 60 years, the BAA has been a place for Western New Yorkers who study the night sky. The Buffalo Astronomical Association is an organization composed of people from all walks of life who share in common a interest for the wonders of the universe.
