HEAP guidelines set, changes made from 2006

The income guidelines for the Home Energy Assistance Program have changed from the previous year.

Dr. Barry A. Weinstein, 15th District Erie County Legislator, said he encourages all residents to examine the new guidelines to determine if they are eligible.

Applications will be accepted for the federally funded HEAP from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday Jan. 25, in the Council Chambers of the Town of Amherst Hall, 5583 Main St., Williamsville.

HEAP is guaranteeing service to the first 80 applicants. The doors open at 7 a.m.

Applicants must bring proof of income for the past month, Social Security cards or other identification papers for all persons living in the home, their most recent heating bill, the electric bill, any shut-off notices and proof of resources, like savings accounts or IRAs. In order to qualify, the monthly income cannot exceed the gross amount listed below.

Applications have already been mailed to residents who receive public assistance, food stamps or SSI, along with those 60 years of age and older who received HEAP funds last year.
