Actually, by not doing a reassessment next year, the equalization rate will drop from 100 percent to 90 percent. The 10 percent will have to be made up with an increase in property taxes. This is a very sneaky way to lead Amherst residents to believe there isn't a tax increase, when in reality by not doing the assessment, the money will have to be made up. .How can a health insurance firm drop square dancing as a suitable exercise from its Active Anytime Program? The ruling was made by a group of New York State appointed authorities who probably do not know the difference between Eastern Style (that is taught in grammar school gym classes) or Western Style (that is taught by a qualified instructor at several square dancing clubs in Western New York). These New York City politicians claim that square dancing has to be held at a gym or other health facilities, where some instructors are only hired off the street. Most doctors preach square dancing as a proper exercise for a healthy lifestyle. I hope the newly-elected governor will look into this unfair and stupid ruling by these unqualified appointees, or should I say friends and contributors of the politicians. .I wish that in 2007 Dana Heights will have electric street lights, not candles like we have now. Mr. Supervisor and Mr. Highway Chief, let's start putting electric lights in Dana Heights; we have been waiting 35 years, while others have only waited 5 years. Let's get on the ball in 2007! .I apologize for not making the January 3 town hall meeting and especially meeting those concerned citizens about repaving Maple Road. I have made the necessary changes so that I can make the Jan. 16 meeting. I hope to see you there. I would also like to thank The Bee for their help getting out my message. Thank you, Thad. .Before everyone gets crazy about paving Maple Road west of Hopkins, the last time it was paved the manholes were not leveled and they clashed and banged all day and night. So, unless you're sure this won't happen again, leave it alone or buy my house on Maple Road. We'd much rather hear the mild thumping than crashing manholes. .Parents, wake up! Watch what your kids are bringing home. If your child brings home an iPod, cell phone or any other item that you cannot account for, question them! Whose is it and where did they get it from? Maybe the item is stolen and needs to be returned to the main office. What a rotten thing to do to one of their classmates. Shame on these kids for stealing! Parents, make sure your child does the right thing by being honest and turning it into the office. .It is getting quite tiresome hearing Ms. Schratz and Ms. Bucki complaining about their comfort level before voting on issues. It's quite unprofessional to hear them constantly use the phrase, "I will be comfortable with" etc., etc., etc. We don't care about their comfort; they are supposed to be voting on issues. .To the people who are constantly discarding their empty wine bottles on Cedarwood and Cottonwood: please dispose of them at home. |
