Free practice testing for the SAT available

To give students a leg up in today's highly competitive college admissions market, Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions, the first and largest provider of test preparation and admissions services nationwide, is offering Western New York area students a free practice run.

The essay portion of the SAT will be tested at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, and a free practice SAT test will be administered at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at the Buffalo Kaplan Center located at 520 Lee Entrance, University at Buffalo Commons, Suite 201, Amherst.

In addition to the free essay practice run under timed conditions that simulate the actual testing environment, Kaplan will provide advice from experts to help students score higher, including how to recognize what the essay graders want and inside strategies on writing high-scoring essays. Students will receive their graded essays following the session to help them adjust their preparation accordingly.

"From speaking with students across the country, we know that the essay component and the extended length of the exam are the areas that are causing the most anxiety about the new tests," said Carl Nuessle, center manager of the Buffalo Kaplan Center. "Kaplan aims to boost students' confidence on the tests by giving them a practice run and helping them target their preparation for the real thing."

Preregistration for Kaplan's free events is recommended, as seating is limited. For more information or to register, go to www.kaptest.com/enroll or call 1- 800- KAP- TEST.
