Pee Wee The Amherst Knights Pee Wee Major “AA” improved their league record to 4-3-1 with a 4-2 come from behind win over Bud Bakewell on Dec. 23. In the second period, the Bruins scored first on the power play. A shot hit numerous skates into the Knights’ net. On the ensuing faceoff, center Brad Ferrell blew past the Bruins defense and ripped a slap shot that beat the goaltender on the glove side. The Knights took the lead later in the second with a goal from Christian Curatolo after completing a give-and-go play with linemate Michael Phillips. Midway into the third period, Alex DiDonato squeezed a pass between the legs of a Bruins defensemen that landed on the stick of Ferrell who hammered it into the back of the net for his second goal of the game. Bud Bakewell pulled within one goal and started to turn up the intensity as they went on the power play with five minutes left in the game. However, their hearts were broken as Curatolo scored short-handed, assisted by DiDonato and goaltender Thomas Styn, his second assist of the season. Game-winning goaltender Styn faced 28 shots in the victory. His defensemen Patrick Hurtubise, Ben Ferro, Joey Kersten, Nick Kowalski and Sam Kraus, all stood up to the task of clearing out the crease from the Bruins forwards, who regularly crashed towards the goal after every shot. |
