Mite Stars victorious over White Sabres

Despite the 7 a.m. start, the Mite Stars and White Sabres played an exciting game on Dec. 23. The Stars won 4-3.

Both teams came ready to play as the scoring started early. Michael Trossman and Bryce Baker crashed the net after a Ben Wolfson save, and Baker pushed the puck over the line as it lay in front of the net. Five minutes later, Cam Carney sent the

puck from his point across to fellow defenseman Connor Bender, who let loose a wrist shot from his point, which beat Wolfson on his glove side. On the next shift, Max Ferro took the puck at his own blue line, bounced it around the defender and skated to a breakaway goal, putting the Stars up by three.

This was the wake-up the White Sabres needed as they battled back at the end of

the period. Dallas Brown and Jeffery Browne got behind the Stars’ defense on their respective shifts and netted goals to pull within one.

The second period was a tight match-up with the game moving from one end to the other.

With three minutes left in the period, Mathew Schrlau banged home a puck in front of the White Sabres’ net with help from Joe Tomczak and Hunter Endress.

The score remained 4-2 until late in the third period, when Maeve Christ beat Michael Callesto to once again bring the White Sabres within one.

Both teams played hard and moved the puck around the ice well, and goaltenders Michael Callesto and Wolfson worked hard, stopping many additional shots on net.
