Stumpf girls compete in Pittsburgh Coed Classic

The Level 8-10 girls from Stumpf’s Gymnastics Center recently competed in the Coed Classic in Pittsburgh.

The club produced two all-around champions and placed several girls in the event finals. Furthermore, the Level 10 squad placed first as a team. Kurt and Lisa Stumpf of Amherst coach each of the girls teams.

The Level 8 team had two gymnasts in the 15 and up division. Dana Ruh placed fifth in all-around, third on vault and fourth on floor exercise, with a 9.175. Kelsey Kuppinger was 11th in all-around and was named vault champion with a 9.200.

The 14 year-old division saw Alex Sada and Chelsea Recor place fifth and sixth overall, respectively. Sada was also fifth on beam while Recor was second on vault. Additionally, the teammates tied for fourth place on floor with a 9.000. Chelsea Zirna, also 14, was ninth in all-around with a fifth place finish on vault.

The 12 and under age group was led by Mary Hamilton, who scored a team-high 35.950. Hamilton was fifth in all-around, third on vault and floor and fourth on uneven bars. Rachel Utech and Emma Lasker placed seventh and eighth, respectively. A pair of fourth place finishes on vault and beam highlighted Utech’s performance, while Lasker was eighth place on beam and floor.

The Level 9 team fielded four gymnasts. Melissa Blando, competing in the 16 to 18 division, placed sixth in all-around and third on beam.

The 13 and under age group stacked the all-around podium with Kaitlyn Lopez, Kailyn Arcury and Erin Hamister placing first, second and third, respectively.

Lopez was also named champion of the vault, uneven bars and floor while Arcury was second on vault, and third on uneven bars, beam and floor. Additionally, Hamister was second on beam and floor and third on vault.

The first place Level 10 team was led by Courtney Connors, who scored a 36.875 all-around and swept the event finals on her way to being crowned all-around champion for the 15 and under division. Teammate Amanda Recor was second in all-around as well as on floor and beam. Recor was also third on uneven bars and fourth on vault. Erica Gasiecki and Kristina Arcury, of the 16-year-old division, placed fourth and fifth respectively. Gasiecki was also fourth on vault, uneven bars and floor while Arcury was second on beam with a 9.000 before leaving the competition due to injury.
