Sister Margaret Ann, educator Sister Margaret Ann, 93, a teacher at many Catholic schools, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, in the health center at St. Mary of the Angels, Williamsville. Born Margaret Connors, she grew up in South Buffalo and attended St. Agatha’s School and Mount Mercy Academy. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from D’Youville College in 1934 and a master’s in education from Catholic University of America in 1953. Later, she studied library science at Nazareth College in Rochester. Sister Ann began her long ministry in education as a lay-teacher at Holy Name and St. Nichols in Buffalo and Our Lady Help of Christians and Maryvale Elementary in Cheektowaga. She then entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Third Order Regular on Feb. 14, 1944 and made profession of final vows on July 2, 1949. Her education ministry included teaching at St. James in Buffalo, SS. Peter & Paul in Williamsville, and Nativity of Our Lord in Orchard Park. She was principal at our Lady Help of Christians in Cheektowaga, St. Christopher’s in Tonawanda and Sacred Heart Elementary School in Bowmansville. Her last teaching assignment was at Nativity School in Orchard Park. In 1988, Sister Margaret Ann came to St. Mary of the Angels in Williamsville where she worked as receptionist for a number of years. Her last eight years were devoted primarily to her prayer ministry while residing there in the Health Care Center of the Sisters of St. Francis. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday, Dec. 30 in St. Mary of the Angels Chapel. |
