'Pay up' - highway workers claim contract not being upheld
      A mass of Town of Amherst highway employees came with one voice to Monday's board meeting. "Pay up," they shouted at the Town Board. The employees are angry that the town has not increased their salaries to reflect the contract that was accepted in August. The previous contract expired Dec. 31, 2005.

Smith Road site selected for dog park
Town feeling deja vu as vendor unpaid
      An off-leash dog park may actually become a reality in the spring of 2008, after more than six years of planning. The Amherst Paw Park Association has selected the Town of Amherst's property at 550 Smith Road as the site for the Amherst Off-Leash Canine Exercise and Training Facility.

      Walking is a lot more strenuous than it sounds. This is the lesson three area women learned when they decided to walk the 26.2-mile Adirondack Marathon around Schroon Lake in September. Kathy Garland of Lancaster and her daughter, Keri Rabideau of Williamsville, were looking for a project that would fit into their schedule and help them keep fit.

Final budget still not announced, nine days past adoption
Muir Woods discussed
      When the Town Board started making amendment to the tentative 2008 budget it was working with a $900,000 credit. Through resolutions, that amount was used, and $18,600 was added to the budget.

      Helen Broecker, 96, an artist and resident at ElderWood Health Care at Heathwood displays her painting, "The Bouquet of Sweetness," that will be displayed in Assemblyman Jim Hayes' district office in Williamsville. The artwork had been on display at the Albany Institute of History and Art as part of the second annual "Art from the Heart" program.
