Stump grinding on hold
      A special Amherst Town Board meeting was called to order on Monday for two items, but only one was passed. The board passed a resolution from Council Member Dan Ward to ratify a contract for placement of voting machines in the town. He said he didn't want contracts approved by the supervisor without the town board's involvement.

Home invasion possibly linked to homicide
      Amherst police investigators are trying to determine if there is a connection between a home invasion and a recent homicide. Police responded to Glenhaven Drive where two female victims, ages 15 and 19, reported that two armed men entered the home around 10 p.m. Monday through an unlocked door.

Attorney seeks town clerk position in November
      Jeffrey Marion, an attorney in Williamsville, said he wants to be the next Amherst Town Clerk to make some changes. In dealing with the Town Clerk's office for a client seeking a vendor permit, Marion said his personal experience wasn't what he had hoped it would be, having a phone call unreturned.

For 30 hours, Janet Stanek, president of Stand Advertising, will live on a billboard overlooking Interstate 190.
