Hilbert College names provost
      Amherst resident Christopher Holoman, Ph.D., has been appointed provost and vice president for academic affairs at Hilbert College. His appointment, which was effective Aug. 15, was announced by Hilbert President Cynthia Zane, Ed.D. Holoman had been served as interim vice president since 2006.

Back to school program changes at Williamsville
      Just for Kids, has leased space in the Williamsville Central School District to operate before and after school programming beginning September 2007. Prior the programs had been run by the YWCA. That program has moved to Temple Beth Am, 4660 Sheridan Drive.

Cartwright named UB vice provost for strategic initiatives
      Alexander N. Cartwright of Williamsville, professor of electrical engineering in the University at Buffalo School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, has been appointed UB's vice provost for strategic initiatives, a new position in which he will serve as the point person in the Provost's Office for the UB 2020 strategic strengths initiatives.

People Inc. Foundation awards scholarships
      The dedication and commitment of seven People Inc. employees were recognized on Aug. 22 at the Vanner Foundation Scholarship Luncheon held at the Park Country Club. The employees were each awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the People Inc.

Singer accepted into prestigious academy
      Alexandra Keller, 17, of Kenmore, and formerly of Amherst, will attend her senior year at Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan where she will study vocal music. Considered one of the world's premier fine arts boarding schools, Interlochen's acceptance is based on Keller's accomplishments throughout the years.

Work at Sweet Home Middle unfinished in gym, auditorium
      When classes resume in the Sweet Home Central District on Wednesday, Sept. 5, only middle school students will see any remnants of construction work. "We're going to be in relatively good shape," said Superintendent Geoff Hicks. "We have set aside the date of Oct. 15 - our middle school open house - as our showpiece.

      Andrea Buckley has received a Steve and Parker Goldstein Endowment scholarship and an Undergraduate Alumni Council Award from the University at Fredonia. She is the daughter of Mark and Cynthia Buckley of Williamsville.

      COLLEGIATE SCHOLAR - Jeffrey Zhou of Getzville has accepted the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's nomination to be a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Zhou is a 2006 graduate of Phillips Academy Andover with academic honor of The Cum Laude Society. He is a member of MIT's men's varsity swimming and water polo team.
