Rensch Road rezonings approved
Jones says vote was illegal
      The Amherst Town Board voted on Monday to rezone 14 parcels on Rensch Road from RD-Research Development to MFR-6 Multi Family Residential to make way for the proposed GMH Communities student housing project. (See editorial on page four) But Town Attorney Tom Jones said the vote was illegal because of the recommendations of the adopted master plan.

Tentative budget shows 3 percent tax rate hike in village
      The Williamsville Village Board has proposed a 2.99 percent increase in the tax rate from the 2006-07 budget. The fiscal 2007-08 budget may have a tax rate of $4.17 per $1,000 of assessed value, up from this year's rate of $4.05 per $1,000. "While I never like to see any tax increase, some years the increase is inevitable," Mayor Mary Lowther said.

Spoth plans run for County Legislature
      When Dr. Barry Weinstein, 15th District legislator for Erie County, announced he would not be seeking another term, he recommended two possible successors - Edward Rath III and Francina Spoth. Rath, who had previously announced his intentions to run, is now joined by Spoth, who said she will also seek the seat.

Rensch Road decision made in haste
With Monday, prior to the Town Board meeting, being the deadline for submissions for the April 19 Planning Board meeting, there was no reason the Town Board needed to act so hastily on the rezonings of 14 Rensch Road parcels.
