Micron Black Sabres edge Blue

The Micron League holiday Feature Rink game was a match-up between rivals, the Black Sabres and Blue Sabres. The Black Sabres won 6-5.

Coaches Bob Rossi and Tony Pulera had their players’ focused for the early morning action on Dec. 24.

The Blue Sabres drew first blood when Eli Utz sent the puck to Kellen Pulera in alone on net for a goal. This awoke the Black Sabres, who stormed back with five unanswered goals. Derek Andrews scored a natural hat trick that was highlighted by two end to end rushes.

The Black Sabres also had goals from Ryan Chambers and Jack Smith, accompanied by effective offensive plays by Skyler Derose and Jonathan Kubiak. At the other end of the rink, goaltender Will Redding made some big saves to frustrate the Blue Sabres.

The Blue Sabres’ defensive effort, led by Theo Gogos, Sal Farrauto, Liam Gallagher and Donovan McCann, held strong, as Blue Sabre goalie Calogeno Santora shut the door for all Black Sabre offense from the mid-point of the game except for Kevin Halpern, who streaked in alone with a nice move to score the Black Sabres’ sixth goal.

The Black Sabres had strong defensive play in front of their net from Tyler Rossi, Eric Metz, Nicholas Smith and Ethan Barnes. The Blue Sabres never quit, receiving great efforts by Gianna Santora, Alex Scarozza and Liam Evenson, resulting in a good come back with goals from Dante Santora and Utz to make the game a close decision.
