Sweet Home hockey finally solves Will East

      All week Alex Esposito and the Sweet Home hockey team had been hearing they couldn’t beat Williamsville East. Last Thursday, Esposito scored the game-winning goal as the Panthers shut up their critics, defeating the Flames, 4-2, on the Amherst Pepsi Center’s Olympic Rink.

Several basketball tournaments this week
      Several Town of Amherst basketball teams are involved in tournaments this week. In girls hoops, Williamsville East hosts Sweet Home, Williamsville North and Williamsville South on Thursday and Friday and Sacred Heart plays in the Fredonia Tournament consolation or finals on Friday.

Amherst boys hoops earn character wins

      It was a tale of two halves in Amherst Central’s non-league road win at Newfane on Thursday. Up 47-21 at halftime, the Tigers held on for a 76-70 victory to improve to 3-3. “We played our best half and worst half of basketball in the same game,” said Amherst coach Mike Chatelle.
