Blue Christmas Service

The Eggertsville United Church of Christ will hold its Blue Christmas Service at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21 at 3400 Sheridan Drive. The service is for those who may not necessarily “feel like celebrating Christmas,” because the holidays can be painful for some people.

Museum to hold

winter fundraiser

The Amherst Museum is accepting new hats, gloves, scarves and mittens to decorate the Mitten Tree through Dec. 31 at the museum, 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road in Amherst. In return, donators will receive a complementary admission to visit the museum. All contributions will be donated to the children at Buffalo School #45, and books will also be collected for the library.

The Center For Inquiry Literary Cafe will feature poets, Jennifer Campbell and Livio Farallo, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3 at the center, 1310 Sweet Home Road. Stroller Strides program

to begin at center

Stroller Strides, the nation’s largest fitness program for new moms, will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesdays and 9:15 a.m. Thursdays in the Harlem Road Community Center, 4255 Harlem Road in Amherst. Classes are also held at 9 a.m. Tuesdays at the Boulevard Mall, 700 Alberta Drive in Amherst. The first class is free. CPA to begin

in February

The Amherst Police Department will offer a Citizen’s Police Academy for 13 weeks of education about the department. The session will begin February 13 at the station, 350 John James Audubon Parkway. Each week participants will have the opportunity to learn about the detective bureau, canine, emergency response team, traffic and more. Class size is limited. Interested applicants, contact Lt.
