Stumpf’s Level 6 girls begin strong on the road

The Level 6 girls from Stumpf’s Gymnastics Center have begun traveling for their 2006-2007 competitive season.

In November, they kicked off the season with a solid performance at the “Turkey Time” meet, where they earned a third place team trophy. They also earned many individual honors, including Shannon Martinsen being named the all-around champion for the 10-11 year old division and Callie Flannigan winning the all-around title for the 12 and over division.

Also finishing in the top 10 were Taylor Balser, who was seventh for the 10-11 year olds and Ashley Materise and Kristen Kelly who finished seventh and eighth for the 12 and over division.

In December, the girls traveled to Brockport State College to compete in the Candy Cane Classic hosted by Bright Raven Gymnastics.

Martinsen led the 11-year old age group with a 36.50 all-around score and a second place finish. Martinsen was also second on the balance beam, third on the floor exercise, fifth on the vault and was the uneven bars champion with a 9.025.

Teammate Amber Moser was fourth overall as well as third on the uneven bars and the vault with a 9.000. Michaela Stumpf finished sixth in the all-around as well as sixth on the vault and seventh on the uneven bars. Flannigan posted an impressive 36.125 to capture third place overall in the 12-year old group. Flannigan was also fourth on the balance beam, third on the uneven bars and was crowned the floor exercise champion with a 9.475.

Teammate Ashley Materise finished in the top-15 overall and was awarded 10th place on the uneven bars. Rookie Taylor Balser, competing in the youngest age group, finished 14th overall and captured ninth place on the uneven bars.

In January, the girls will travel to the Niagara Falls Conference Center to compete in the Graffiti Invitational.
