No injuries reported as house fire causes $40,000 damage It was an early wake-up call for Richard Canazzi of Amherst when he was startled out of bed by flames in the wall of his home. At 3:45 a.m. Monday, Canazzi was alerted by his smoke detector that there was a fire in his home. The Snyder Fire Department as well as the Getzville Fire Company both responded to the incident. When they arrived, they found flames coming through the roof of the house. Canazzi escaped without injury. The fire company reported that the fire started in a wall space heater in a laundry room and spread upwards through the wall and into the attic. The fire took 30 minutes to control. Damages are estimated at $25,000 for the structure and $15,000 for the contents of the home, with the total at approximately $40,000. Other agencies involved in assisting the fire company were the Amherst fire inspector, Amherst police, Twin City Ambulance, National Grid and National Fuel Gas. Chief Allan Brown was the officer in charge of the incident. |
