Red Sabres, Red Wings skate to 2-2 tie The Red Sabres and the Red Wings battled to a 2-2 tie in Amherst Youth Hockey Squirt action on Sunday. With all the scoring happening in the first period, the game turned into a defensive battle over the final two periods. Andrew Welchoff played great in goal for the Red Sabres, stopping a close wrist shot near the end of regulation to preserve the tie. Red Sabre Adam Tucker opened the scoring early in the first period with an excellent breakaway goal. Goals by Herr and Federiconi for the Red Wings put them in the lead until Tucker scored his second of the game with 29 seconds left in the period. Matthew Deed got the assist with a nifty pass. The Red Sabre defense continued to play well, killing four penalties in the game. Matthew Tripi had an outstanding game as he kept the Red Wings off balance all day long. Dominic Caruso and Alex Gervase also played well and Andrew Meyer and Noah Basehart both barely missed game winning goals as their shots just missed the net. |
