Football players honored

Sweet Home had the best record of all Town of Amherst varsity football teams so its no surprise they had the most All-Western New York selections.

Lineman Nick Christman was named to the First Team offense. Quarterback Ian Goree and wide receiver Marcus Johnson were chosen to the third team.

Linebacker Paul Tagliarino earned Second Team honors.

Amherst Central running back Andre Hakeem also made the third team offense.

Williamsville East kicker Joe O’Gorman was an All-WNY Honorable Mention.

Here’s a list divisional all-stars from Amherst, Sweet Home, Williamsville East, Williamsville North, and Williamsville South.

Amherst

Hakeem was the only Tiger to make the Class A South First Team offense. Defensive backs Chris Brunetto and Bertram Smith made the defensive first team.

Tigers who earned division Second Team honors include Cordell Freeman, Scott Boyer and Pete Pete Caferelli. Nick Borek, Troy Martin and Matt Krajna were honorable mention.

Sweet Home

The Panthers placed three players on the Class A North offensive and defensive First Teams.

Goree, running back Allen Douglas and wide receiver Eric Lawrence made it for offense; Johnson, Tagliarino and Christman were named for defense.

Goree was named Class A North Offensive Player of the Year.

Nate McConnell, Andrew Hopkins, Sean Burns, Mike Lawandus, Augie Merlino and Kyle Balcerak earned Second Team honors.

Coach John Faller earned Coach of the Year honors with Starpoint’s Al Cavagnaro.

Williamsville East

Fullback Zach Miller, wide receiver Rick Silvestri and kicker Joe O’Gorman made the Class A North First Team offense. Miller is Offensive Player of the Year.

Defensive back Joe Schriever and defensive tackle Tyler Durinka made the division’s First Team defensive team.

Chris Petrucelli, Yiannis Mountziaris and Mike Alcazaren made the Second Team.

Mike Rath, Adam Kausch, Brad Demo, Dan Rizzo, J.L. Ivey, Mike Langfelder and Rocco Del Grosso earned Honorable Mention.

Mountziaris and Miller made the WNY All-Academic team.

Coach Henry Fumerelle was a finalist for All-WNY Coach of the Year.

Williamsville North

Wide receiver Joe Aquilino and running back T.J. McDuffie made the Class AA North First Team offense.

Michael Moore, Class AA North Co-Defensive Player of the Year, made the league’s defensive First Team.

Fawzi Abelhay, Brad Adkins, Eric Dahlman and Jerome Fields earned Second Team honors.

Zak Boron, Phil Constantino, Brian Davis and Andy Steinhaus were Honorable Mention.

Williamsville South Adrian Wood earned Second Team honors.
