South girls bowling thinking ECIC II title

The Williamsville South girls varsity bowling team is looking for big things this year.

After finishing 5-5 in ECIC Division III, the Lady Billies enter the season in a new division (ECIC II) with hopes of a title.

“ECIC II is going to be a tough division and I feel it’s going to come down to the wire for the division championship,” said South coach Steve Delisanti. “Sweet Home, Iroquois, Hamburg, West Seneca East and Williamsville East will be stiff competition.”

The Lady Billies return senior captain Jessica Mamon, a returning All-ECIC III all-star with a 205 average. Mamon will anchor South’s “A” team.

“Jessica is one of the best lady bowlers in Western New York,” said Delisanti. “She is very consistent and at any time can put up a huge number.” Also starting are junior Jenny Zubricky, who will be South’s “B” team anchor, sophomores Alex Rasey and Liz Scimia, who Delisanti said are much improved, freshmen Rachel Broardt, Becca Kent, and Katherine Wamback and seventh grader Tricia Kent.

Delisanti said Broardt, Becca Kent and Wamback are solid contributors.

“Rachel and Becca are returning bowlers who have both worked very hard to improve their scores,” he added.

Delisanti said Tricia Kent has already made an impact on the team.

“She is a fireplug out there, full of energy and always thinking about the team,” said Delisanti. “She has a great future if she keeps working on her game.”

Other bowlers contributing will be seniors Kym Nelson, Taylor McLanahan and Missy Fanara, junior Michelle Giancarlo, and freshmen Katie Darnley, Missy Vetrano and Anissa Bochiechio.

“All of the girls are hard workers and really try their best at all times,” said Delisanti. “Our goal is to compete hard, win a division championship and of course, have fun along the way.”
