Sister Mary Audrey Reil, teacher

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Tuesday, Dec. 12 in St. Mary of the Angels Chapel for Sister Mary Audrey Reil.

Sister Reil, 85, a Franciscan and educator in Buffalo and San Juan, Puerto Rico, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at St. Mary of the Angels in Williamsville.

As a 65-year member of the Franciscan Congregation of St. Mary of the Angels, Sister Reil dedicated her services to teaching in the elementary and junior high schools conducted by her order in the Diocese of Buffalo and the Archdiocese of San Juan, Puerto Rico. She also served as principal, organist, music and choir director in some of the schools and parishes of her assignments.

Sister Reil received a bachelor’s degree in education from Mt. St. Joseph’s Teachers College and a master’s degree in education and administration from Buffalo State College.

Retiring from the teaching profession after 30 years, she was assigned to the business office of the order’s healthcare facility at St. Francis Hospital of Buffalo. She had been residing at St. Mary of the Angels since 1989.
