Joseph J. Boersma, retired bakery superintendent

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday, Dec. 9 in SS. Peter & Paul Church after prayers in Amigone Funeral Home for Joseph J. Boersma.

Mr. Boersma, 92, of Amherst, a retired bakery superintendent, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, in St. Francis Nursing Home, Williamsville.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Boersma graduated from Technical High School and in 1935, from American Institute of Baking in Chicago.

Mr. Boersma was superintendent of the bread shop at Hall’s Bakery in Buffalo for 49 years.

He was a member of the Holy Name Society and an usher at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Catholic Church in Cheektowaga and a parishioner of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Williamsville for over 30 years.

He enjoyed watching birds and loved animals.

His first wife, Jessie Vandemeer Boersma, died in 1962. He later married Dorothy Lipka.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Boersma is survived by two daughters, Joan Pleban and Marilyn Schulz; two sons, Dr. Ronald and Joseph; a stepson, Dean Burkhardt; and a brother, Robert; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
