The Gospel truth

MusicalFare Theatre and the Paul Robeson Theatre are teaming up for “Black Nativity,” this weekend at MusicalFare Theatre at Daemen College.
Music alFare Theatre is presenting the Paul Robeson Theatre’s production of “Black Nativity” for four performances this weekend.

“Black Nativity” is one of the most beloved works of literary genius Langston Hughes. This production is directed by Paulette Harris. The song-play, a colloquial re-telling of the birth of Christ based on the Gospel of St. Luke, is set to the soul-stirr ing, roof-r aising, hand-c lapping testament to the power of gospel song, and delivers a powerful message of joy, hope, victory and liberation.

For the past two years, “Black Nativity” has been a holiday favorite at the Paul Robeson Theatre on Buffalo’s East Side.

“I know audiences will enjoy this holiday production and its uplifting music and dance,” said MusicalFare Artistic/Executive Director Randall Kramer. “I am very excited that MusicalFare is able, thanks to the support of the John R. Oishei Foundation, to bring this dynamic production to Amherst.”

Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 4 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at MusicalFare Theatre at Daemen College, 4380 Main St., Amherst. Tickets are $25 and are available by calling 839-8540.
