Holiday brass

‘Tis the season for BPO Principal Pops Conductor Marvin Hamlisch and HSBC Holiday Pops, to be held this weekend.
Buffalo Philharmonic Principal Pops Conductor Marvin Hamlisch will lead the BPO and the Empire Brass in the songs of the yuletide season during HSBC Holiday Pops, this weekend at Kleinhans Music Hal l.

The No. 1 WNY tradition, HSBC Holiday Pops presents yuletide favorites, laughs, surprises and the warmth of the holiday season.

Hamlisch has won virtually every major award that exists, including three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, a Tony and three Golden Globe awards. He is the composer of more than 40 motion picture scores, and the musical creator of the Pulitzer Prize-winning “A Chorus Line.”

The Empire Brass is known as North America’s finest brass quintet. The Telarc label recording artists perform more than 100 concerts a year in various cities around the world. They have been featured on various television and radio programs.

HSBC Holiday Pops will also feature the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus under the direction of L. Brett Scott.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15; 2:30 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16; and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at 71 Symphony Circle, Buffalo. Tickets range from $25 to $72 and are available by calling 885-5000, Tickets.com at 888-223-6000, or by visiting www.bpo.org.

Non-perishable food items are sought for the Food Bank of WNY. Large barrels will be located at the entrances of Kleinhans.
