North seniors likely to succeed
by LAUREN HALL

Khurram Dara
Williamsville North Student Council proudly recognizes the outstanding achievements of two members of its senior class each month. Students featured in this column are selected by faculty recommendation. The Senior Spartan Spots for December are Joelle Formato and Khurram Dara.

Joelle Formato, daughter of Jackie and Tony Formato of Getzville, enthusiastically serves her school as Student Council secretary after being vice president of her Class Steering Committee for two years. Ranked in the top 15 students in her class, Formato is a member of National Honor Society and Math Honor Society. Formato is also president of North’s Vocal Department, for which she sings in Concert Choir and Select Chorus. After holding the position of dance captain in North’s musicals for the past two years, Formato will play a lead role in the production of Bye Bye Birdie in March 2007.

Formato is also a dedicated student, teaching assistant, and Competition Team dancer at Spezio’s Dance Dynamics. She is also a dinner server at Asbury Pointe Retirement Home.

Next year, Formato hopes to attend Boston College for business marketing and advertising.

Khurram Dara, son of Yasmin and Tanvir Dara of Getzville, captains the North Varsity Soccer Team, for which he has been named to the First Team All ECIC. He is president of the Cultural Awareness Club, treasurer of Model United Nations, an attorney on the Mock Trial Team and a member of National Honor Society. A talented musician, Dara is also vice president of Wind Ensemble and plays lead tenor saxophone in the Jazz Ensemble.

Active in the community, Dara volunteers his time as vice president of the Amherst Youth Court. He is also a devoted member of the Young Republicans and currently employed by state Sen. Mary Lou Rath.
