Williamsville North to feature 'Season of Light' "Season of Light" is a Planetarium Starshow, featuring the customs and traditions of winter festivals of long ago. The show will present facts about the coldest and darkest seasons - a season which holds some of the warmest and brightest celebrations of the year. The event will also recount the historical, religious and cultural rituals practiced during the winter solstice. Christian, Jewish, Celtic, pagan, Nordic, Roman, Hopi and Mexican winter festivals will be featured. Astronomy is a main focus of the show, featuring constellations, the sun's path across the sky and the earth's tilt and orbit. The event will be held at 6 and 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21 at the Williamsville Space Lab Planetarium, located at North High School 1595 Hopkins Road. The planetarium will also host "Skywatchers of Ancient Mexico" a joint meeting with the Buffalo Astronomical Association, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12. "Dawn of Astronomy" will be held Monday, Feb. 26; "March Moon Madness" will be Monday, March 19; and "Endless Horizons," a joint meeting with the Hamburg Natural Historical Society will be held Monday, April 23. Times will be announced closer to the date of each program. |
