(Editor's note: Call The Bee at 632-0390 and record a one-minute comment on our Bee Heard line. It gives readers an opportunity to comment quickly and candidly on items of local or regional interest. Callers do not have to identify themselves and no callers' names will be used. In the interest of fairness and good taste, The Bee will not publish derogatory or insulting comments. All comments are by our readers and are subject to editing. .Amherst Supervisor Satish Mohan waited too long to hire the tree cleanup service, and then when he did hire somebody, in order to save what he claims to be several million dollars, he hired someone from out of state that has no connection to the community, other than apparently hiring Satish's right-hand man in his campaign. These people have no connection to the community, and they are being paid on a per-tree basis. They are cutting down trees haphazardly just to make money; they don't really care what they are doing to the community. .To all those callers who keep complaining about Satish Mohan not keeping his promises, it's not because he doesn't want to. It's because the board won't let him. .It seems like Bee Heard is just an editorial to blast Satish Mohan. I'm sure this is supported by Susan Grelick and the other cronies in Amherst. .Dr. Mohan promised to lower taxes by eliminating waste. The mosquito treatment program and testing for West Nile virus pools is not wasteful. Please see that this service is maintained. .Wake up, 10,439 Amherst homeowners! We are being discriminated by the town supervisor, for we, the 10,439 homeowners, will be paying a higher property tax than the rest. We should all demand a refund! Are we going to get better services from the Highway Department? No, but the town supervisor's street will be plowed and leaves picked up and the balance of the town he says the heck with! .At the old shoe store at Bailey and Sheridan (on the Bailey Avenue side) the water keeps running out of the old fire sprinkler system. It runs into the street on Bailey Avenue and, when the temperature drops in the next few weeks, there is going to be an icing problem and it's going to create a safety hazard for vehicles going up and down Bailey Avenue. I wish someone would look into this and get it corrected. With the budget cuts to the highway department, I'm sure Mr. Anderson will not be able to send a truck out there every time it ices over (thanks to Satish Mohan). I've called the owner of the building Benderson), and I have not seen any work done over there, except to put a few pieces of drain tile to divert it into the garden, but it still flows in the roadway.
.I'm commenting on the fact that people in nursing homes have to pay New York State sales tax. You save for retirement; you think you'll be able to take care of yourself, and then this is just one added burden that they've slipped in on retired people, and I think something should be done. We've eliminated some toll booths, we are trying to reduce taxes for the general public, but we still tax the elderly in nursing homes, the people who can least afford it. I think this is ridiculous. No wonder people are leaving the area in their old age. |
