Stars defeat Grey Sabres The Mite Stars defeated the Grey Sabres, 6-1, on Nov. 19 at the Amherst Pepsi Center. The Sabres came out skating but Connor Bender looked sharp in net for the Stars, stopping everything that was thrown his way. The game went back and forth for most of the first period as the teams tried to find the soft spot in their opponent. With only a minute to go in the first period, Hunter Endres found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Leah Kramer. Bryce Baker and Michael Trossman teamed up in the second period to put the Stars up 2-0. Cam Carney scored at the end of the period to put the Stars up 3-0. The red line defensive duo of Michael Callesto and Jake Siegle were superb, keeping the Sabres out of the Stars' end most of the game. Zach Perelstein did, however, get by midway through the third period to beat Bender on a breakaway for the Sabres' lone goal. Baker and Trossman combined again in the third period for Baker's second goal, and Endres also added one more with help from Cam Murray and Joe Tomzack. Although the blue line did not score any goals, the team play of Michael Gagliano, Logan Gare, and Nick Kieffer on offense and Turner Dirrigl, and Max Ferro on defense was inspiring with good passing and solid backchecking preventing the Sabres from putting any points on the board on their watch. |
