Highway leaf collection wraps up Dec. 1

The Amherst Highway Department is planning to wrap up leaf collection at week's end, Friday Dec. 1. All Town residents are asked to have leaf piles brought to the Town right-of-ways as soon as possible.

After Dec. 1, residents will need to put any leaves yet to be collected in bags for pickup with their regular garbage, as yard waste collection through the Refuse Department and Waste Management will be suspended at that time also.

It should also be noted that debris pickup from the October storm through the Town's contractor is scheduled to wrap up in mid-December per their contract with the Amherst Town Board.

Residents are asked again to have any storm debris out to the Town right-of-ways as soon as possible for pickup as the company completes its third and final pass through the Town. Under the special circumstances of the storm, tree limbs do not need to be cut and bundled for pickup as they would normally need to be. It is also asked that residents try to keep debris and leaf piles separated.
