Squirt White Sabres shut out Sharks

The White Sabres used a big second period en route to their second consecutive win, a 4-0 shutout over the Sharks in the Amherst Hockey Association Squirt Division.

The first period was a close checking affair as both goaltenders, Alex Jackson of the Sabres and Alex Bender of the Sharks, made some big saves.

Jim Roberto finally broke the scoreless tie late in the first period. The Sabres opened it up in the second as they scored three unanswered goals. James Basset scored the first with Jonathon Utech adding the final two.

Jackson recorded his first shutout of the season as he was aided by fine defensive efforts from Basset, Roberto, Utech, Ethan Evenson, Jacob DiStasio, Jamey Irish-Ryan, and Joe Phillips.

On the offensive side, the Sabres had contributions from Dan Dirrigl, Dan Carosi, Chris Comtois, George Korn, Justin LaMonto and Alley Lillis. Although unable to put the puck in the net, they applied pressure throughout the game.

For the Sharks, Nick Peters, Brendan Quagliana Colin Lawrence, Jeff Terrangoli, Nasir Dara, Nick Bucello and Ben Wald played well on the offensive end. Aiding Bender with some fine defensive plays were Nick Vermilye, Mathias Williams, Chris Horton, Joe Kramer, Gerard Marotto, Cameron Czora, and Tim Kruez.
