Mite Stars victorious in season opener

The Mite Stars won 4-1 in a hard fought battle against the Sharks on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 12 at the Amherst Pepsi Center.

The Sharks drew first blood at the end of the first period when Thomas Cruver fed Allison Attea in front of the net and she beat Stars goalie Jacob Siegel. The second period saw the action swing from one end of the ice to the other. Both goaltenders made stellar saves which resulted in a scoreless period.

The third period however belonged to the Stars. Bryce Baker evened the score as the period began by burying a rebound on a shot from Michael Trossman.

The following shift added two more quick goals, the first by Michael Gagliano who netted the goal after receiving a pass from teammate Logan Gare. Gare then followed with his own unassisted goal as he rushed the length of the rink with the puck 30 seconds later. The Stars' scoring was topped off by Matt Schrlau as he found the puck in front of the Sharks' net and sent it home. The key to the Stars win was the solid defense provided by Connor Bender, Michael Callesto, Max Ferro, Joe Tomczak, and Nick Kieffer. Cam Carney, Hunter Endress, Leah Kramer, and Cam Murray also contributed to the win.
