Matthew Koss and Kara Dempsey

Robert Dempsey of Bellport, N.Y., announces the engagement of his daughter, Kara Dempsey, to Matthew Koss, son of Kathy and Richard Cummings of Williamsville. Miss Dempsey is also the daughter of the late Anne Dempsey.

Miss Dempsey is a 2001 graduate of Manhasset High School. She earned her bachelor's degree with honors in psychology and history from Fordham University in 2005. She is an analyst for Mercer Human Resource Consulting and a graduate student at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health. She is a member of Phi Alpha Theta, the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Psychological Association and the Society of Psychological Anthropology.

Her fiance is a 1999 graduate of Canisius High School where he was valedictorian of his class. He earned his bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, in biological sciences from Fordham University in 2003. He is a doctoral candidate in developmental biology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and a member of Sigma Xi and Phi Beta Kappa.

An April 2008 wedding at St. Mary's Church in Manhasset, N.Y., is planned.
