Amherst student wins scholarship

St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute student Robert Schreck, class of 2007, has been named the recipient of the 26th annual Phil Scaffidi Alumni Scholarship for the 2006-07 school year.

The award is typically given to an incoming senior who participates in multiple sports exemplifying dedication, determination and desire, as well as to a young man who has demonstrated good citizen in the community and to St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute.

Schreck of Amherst has been an active participant in the sports program, excelling in the areas of federation hockey and varsity lacrosse. He also plays travel team hockey for Amherst.

At St. Joe's, Schreck is a member of the National Honor Society, has volunteered for the school's open house, and has participated in the Lasallian Writing Contest. As part of his service commitment to the community, he has given of his time to the YMCA and Cradle Beach Camp.

Additionally, his travel team hockey program has assisted with the Hasek's Heroes program. A member of St. Benedict Parish in Eggertsville, Schreck hopes to attend The Ohio State University next year to continue his academic studies.
