+ HAPPY THANKSGIVING - I don't cook. I bake only when I have to and I hate shopping for ingredients. I also have a history of being more interested in the Thanksgiving football games than the food. Knowing these factors, my mom gave me a puzzled look when I asked what I should bring to Thanksgiving dinner.

My sister has always been more domestic than I am so it's safe to assume she will be bringing a fantastic dish. My grandmother always comes with pump- kin pies in hand. My aunt usually handles a pre-dinner relish or cheese tray. And my parents cook all the main dishes. So that leaves me without a clue about what to bring or the ability to create something. Luckily, my younger brother, who knows me all too well, said I should make Chex's Muddy Buddies (a snack a child could probably handle). Then, on a second thought, he added to bring a bottle of wine - something I know I can do well. So this Thanksgiving I am grateful that I have people in my life who will cook for me because one can't live on Muddy Buddies and wine alone.

From the staff at The Amherst Bee, we wish all our readers a very happy Thanksgiving.

HELPING HANDS - AIDS Community Services of WNY needs volunteers for its holiday gift-wrapping booths from Nov. 28 through Dec. 24 at the Eastern Hills and Boulevard malls. Volunteers are needed every day during the monthlong event to wrap gifts for holiday shoppers. More than 650 helpers will be required to make the holiday gift-wrapping season a success. Don't know how to wrap? Chief elf Eugene Abrahamson will show people all they need to know to be gift-wrapping volunteers. To volunteer, call Abrahamson at 332-2268, ext. 335.

All proceeds from the holiday gift-wrapping booths will benefit AIDS Community Services of WNY.

WORLD'S LARGEST DISCO - My best friend, Jacki DelPrince, and I were driving around Amherst and Clarence the other day in search of disco costumes for The World's Largest Disco. The anticipated event is this Saturday, and if you know my friends and me, it is a tradition we look forward to all year long.

For the past couple of years, my friends and I have bought tickets for the event, rented a hotel room downtown and experienced what life was like in the late 1970s - since none of us had been born yet.

We found our costumes at Betsy Ross on Main Street in Clarence, just as my friends Michelle and Jen Kelchlin did. I cannot wait to boogie on the dance floor in my platform shoes and multicolored disco outfit. Jacki will sport the Afro wig she wore last year, which is at least 2 feet wide and 1 foot high.

In pictures from the 2005 disco, all you can see is a curly blonde pouf. We would all pose, but because she had so much hair on top of her head, her face didn't make it into many of the pictures. The sight is unforgettable; you can check it out at www.worldslargestdisco.com. I cannot wait for this year's event, which is Saturday, Nov. 25 at the Convention Center in Buffalo. Although tickets are sold out for this year, I would highly recommend attending in 2007.
