Williamsville South graduate Colleen Schwarz was named one of two student-athletes from Gannon University to be named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District II women's soccer team.
Schwarz was named to the first team for her combined efforts on the field and in the classroom.
Schwarz is ranked second on Gannon in goals (7), assists (4), and points (18). The sophomore midfielder is ninth all-time at Gannon in career goals (13) and 10th in career points (30) despite playing only two seasons. In the classroom, the physician assistant major owns a 3.98 cumulative grade-point average. She was one of three midfielders named to the first team.
The Williamsville native produced two single-season totals among Gannon's all-time best. Her seven goals and 18 points both equal the ninth-highest single season total in school history.
The 2006 Academic All-District II women's soccer teams were selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The 11 first-team members will now move to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released November 21.
The District II College Division consists of all NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA colleges and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
To be nominated for the Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant reserve on her team.
